The National Communication Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah, has addressed concerns raised by a young Ghanaian about high taxation and economic hardships. The young citizen had expressed frustration about the difficulty of living under current financial pressures, citing an example of a luxury car import that attracted GHC 450,000 in taxes.
Ahiagbah acknowledged the concerns and reaffirmed the NPP’s commitment to addressing tax issues in the short term. He emphasized that over-taxation is counterproductive, encouraging tax evasion and hindering economic growth.
The NPP believes in minimal taxation, which promotes production, leading to increased economic activities and greater tax revenue for the government. Ahiagbah reflected on the NPP’s 2016 proposal, which shifted the focus from taxation to production to foster a robust economy.
He called on citizens to vote for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who aims to simplify the tax system, eliminate crisis-induced taxes, and reduce import duties.Dr. Bawumia’s goals align with the NPP’s vision to ease economic burdens on the youth and create a favorable environment for growth and development.
Ahiagbah assured that the NPP is dedicated to promoting production and economic activity, ultimately benefiting the government and the people. As the election approaches, tax reform proposals are expected to be a central issue for voters seeking relief from high living costs and complex tax regulations.
