The National Peace Council has voiced its support for the Electoral Commission’s plan to adopt the Ghana Card as the exclusive document for voter registration.
This endorsement marks a shift following initial concerns over accessibility and issuance challenges faced by the National Identification Authority (NIA).
Initially criticized for potential disenfranchisement due to accessibility issues, the EC’s proposal encountered skepticism among stakeholders.
However, following a closed-door meeting on electoral preparations, Dr. Ernest Adu Gyamfi, Chairman of the National Peace Council, expressed backing for the EC’s decision.
Dr. Gyamfi highlighted flaws in the current guarantor system, emphasizing the Ghana Card as a more secure alternative that could mitigate irregularities associated with voter registration.
