The Nigerian Army’s counter-terrorism forces successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt in Sokoto State on Thursday evening, neutralizing five terrorists and rescuing two hostages in a daring gun battle.

According to a statement released by the Army, troops responded to a distress call from the Baniguntu and Gohonau forest area in Gudu Local Government Area and engaged the terrorists in a fierce exchange of gunfire, resulting in the elimination of five terrorists and the recovery of five AK-47 rifles, 32 rounds of ammunition, and a Tecno phone.

The rescued hostages, Nura Isya and Saluhu Hamza, were safely handed over to the Chairman of Gudu Local Government Area for medical care and reunification with their families.

The Army’s statement praised the “heroic rescue mission” and reaffirmed the military’s commitment to combating terrorism and ensuring the safety and security of citizens in Sokoto State and across the country.

“The successful operation not only prevented a potential tragedy but also further disrupted the activities of the terrorist group,” the statement read. “This highlights the resoluteness of the Nigerian Army to combat terrorism and ensure the safety and security of citizens.”
