The High Court of Ghana, Labour Division, has granted an ex parte injunction in favour of the Professional Association of Psychiatric Nurses – Ghana (PAPNG) in their collective agreement case. The ruling temporarily halts the implementation of a contested collective agreement negotiated by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA).
The court’s decision prevents the agreement from taking effect on July 1, 2024, citing the GRNMA’s exclusion of PAPNG and other unions from the negotiation process as a violation of their rights and interests.
PAPNG hailed the court’s decision as a “significant triumph” for the nation’s psychiatric nurses, stating that the GRNMA’s actions violated Labour Regulations, 2007 (LI 1833). The association committed to continued advocacy for psychiatric nurses’ rights and interests, ensuring “fair and equitable treatment for all our members.”
