Court Grants Permission For Second Autopsy On Late Singer Mohbad
The Ikorodu Magistrate Court in Lagos State has granted the family of late singer Mohbad permission to conduct a second autopsy, following the inconclusive results of the initial autopsy.
The singer’s body was exhumed on September 21, 2023, for an autopsy by the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), but the family rejected the results, citing a lack of clarity on the cause of death.
The coroner’s inquest, led by the presiding magistrate, has been investigating the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death. During a hearing on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, the court granted permission for a second autopsy, allowing for an independent toxicology report to be submitted to the court.
Mohbad’s father, Joseph Aloba, expressed gratitude for the court’s decision, stating, “I appreciate the responses all along to the death of Mohbad. We appreciate the judiciary for this decision. There is a reason for the government to instruct that we exhume Mohbad for them to know the cause of his death.”
Aloba also expressed shock at seeing his estranged wife and daughter-in-law, Wunmi, at the court hearing, stating, “It was sad seeing the mother and the wife because we haven’t been communicating for some days; it was like a shock.”
The second autopsy is expected to provide further clarity on the cause of Mohbad’s death, bringing closure to his family and fans.
