Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Calls For Swift Action On Stalled Hospital Projects

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has expressed concern over the slow pace of work on hospital projects in the Ashanti Region, urging swift action to complete them.

During a meeting with a delegation from the Ministry of Health, led by Minister Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye, at the Manhyia Palace, the King emphasized the need to prioritize the health of the people. “We must try hard and do our best to ensure the health of the people is prioritized,” he said.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II specifically mentioned the Sewua Hospital project, which he visited recently. “I see no reason why work should not be completed. Workers on site are blaming delays on power and road network issues, despite huge sums spent on hospital equipment,” he said.

The King also urged the Minister to fast-track the completion of the KNUST Teaching Hospital and prioritize works at Trede. He commended the Minister for the ‘Heal KATH’ project and called for prompt actions to operationalize Afari Military and Sewua hospitals to decongest KATH.

Dr. Okoe-Boye assured the King that the Government was working to complete all ongoing health projects in the region. He suggested a memorandum of understanding between the Ghana Health Service and KATH to direct exceptional care services to facilities like Sewua Hospital.
