Residents Cry Out for Repair of Deplorable Santa Maria Road
- 400-meter stretch of Santa Maria Road deteriorates, posing safety risks
- Residents and commuters demand urgent repairs amid frequent accidents
- Municipal Assembly promises to address concerns and repair the road
A critical 400-meter stretch of Santa Maria Road, a vital link between Kwashiman and Sowutuom, has deteriorated to a hazardous state, sparking urgent calls for repair and fears of further accidents.
Located in the Ga Central Municipality, the affected stretch, in front of the Dunwell Methodist Church, is riddled with potholes and cave-ins, forcing drivers to divert their routes. Residents and commuters have expressed concern about the frequent accidents and casualties on this stretch.
“The road’s condition has caused our vehicles to break down, and we’re forced to call buses to pick up passengers,” said a resident. “When it rains, we can’t use the route, which is a major concern.”
Despite repeated reports, the concerns of residents have been ignored, with some attributing the neglect to political bias. “We’ve reported repeatedly, but our concerns are being ignored. Some say this is the NPP World Bank, implying our needs are being neglected,” a resident lamented.
However, the Assembly Member for the Santa Maria Electoral Area has assured that the Municipal Assembly is working to repair the road. “We’ve been engaging with the urban road department and other departments in the assembly. I urge residents to have patience, and the municipality will ensure the road is repaired.”
The Municipal Chief Executive Officer, Ambrose Tsegah, has also pledged to address residents’ concerns, acknowledging the road’s deplorable state.
