A founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe, has made a shocking revelation that the party’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is being prevented from choosing his own running mate for the 2024 December elections. Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe alleged that Dr. Bawumia is facing difficulties in selecting his preferred running mate, despite the party’s tradition of allowing its flagbearers to choose their own running mates.
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe asserted that Dr. Bawumia is being suppressed to choose Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, as his running mate, a decision that may not align with the party’s best interests. The party stalwart questioned why Dr. Bawumia is being denied the freedom to choose his own running mate, a privilege enjoyed by President Akufo-Addo in the past.
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe expressed concerns that this development could destroy the party, emphasizing that Dr. Bawumia’s inability to choose his own running mate is a recipe for disaster. He predicted this situation seven months ago, and his fears are now being confirmed.
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe also cast doubt on the party’s quest to break the eight-year cycle, stating that those at the helm of affairs are not helping the party. He lamented that President Akufo-Addo does not listen to founding leaders of the party, unlike former President Kufuor, who valued their input.
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe reiterated that if President Akufo-Addo listened to the concerns of founding members, the party would not be facing this challenge. His comments have sparked debate within the party, with many calling for unity and a reevaluation of the party’s decision-making process.
