Make Ghana Publishing Company Profitable; Otumfuo to Management

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has encouraged the Management of the Ghana Publishing Company Limited to set their minds to expand the company to generate the needed returns, one of the ultimate objectives for its establishment.

Formerly the Ghana Publishing Corporation, it was converted into a Limited Liability Company under the Statutory Corporations (Conversion to Companies) Act 461, 1993, and re-named Ghana Publishing Company Limited in 2007.

Though the company folded up some time due to a myriad of challenges, it has been revived to undertake gazetting and printing of all Government of Ghana documents including Acts, Bills, Legislative Instruments, Constitutional Instruments and engages in the sale of books and other publications.

It also undertakes commercial printing and publishing.

Management of the company visited the Manhyia Palace on June 26, 2024, to formally inform His Majesty about the inauguration of their new office located in Kumasi as part of their decentralisation agenda.

The Managing Director, David Asante Boateng, told His Majesty the office located inside the SIC Building at Prempeh Assembly Hall will be inaugurated on July 10, 2024, and requested representatives of the Palace at the event.

“Our records tell us that a huge chunk of our income comes from Asanteman so we had to select the region to host our second office. We have gotten a place at Prempeh Assembly Hall where we have gotten an office space inside the SIC building.”

He also used the occasion to present the company’s quota towards the Heal KATH project, a project to give a facelift to the 70-year-old Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.

“We are aware of the Heal KATH project. After giving us a space to host our office, we deemed it right to come and support with GHC100,000. This is the little we have.”

In his submission, Otumfuo recalled the bygone of the Company at its former location and the hurdles it confronted which eventually led to its fold-up.

“Their office at first was situated by the sea and hosted all documents of the government. Documents were piled up there, a lot of them. It assisted in research. At some point, they were challenged with faulty equipment. It collapsed later but by God’s grace, these young men have brought life into it.”

He further advised them to put in place the needed policies and measures to commercialise the company to break the jinx associated with state companies.

“It is now a limited liability company and now depends on your knowledge and managerial skills. Work hard in that regard. This is an important aspect as it has to do with gazetting. Make it profitable.”

Moreover, His Majesty commended them for decentralizing.
