The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, has commended the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for returning to the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC). The NDC had boycotted IPAC meetings since 2021, following the review of the 2020 parliamentary and presidential elections.
However, the party announced its return to IPAC in December 2023, and has since been actively participating in meetings. Speaking to journalists in Accra, Jean Mensa expressed her appreciation for the NDC’s return, stating that it has been beneficial for all parties involved.
She noted that the discussions have been constructive, and the NDC has made significant suggestions that have been taken on board. The EC has inputted the feedback from the NDC and other parties and is working to implement them in their processes.
Jean Mensa specifically highlighted the valuable feedback from the NDC during the just-ended voter registration exercise. The NDC’s return to IPAC is seen as a positive development, as it allows for constructive dialogue and collaboration between political parties.
The leadership of the NDC had previously expressed concerns about perceived biases by the EC, which led to their initial boycott of IPAC. However, their return indicates a willingness to engage and work together to improve the electoral process in Ghana.
