“I Will Never Endorse a Political Party Even if They Offered $1 million” – Kofi Kinaata

Renowned Ghanaian musician, Kofi Kinaata, has made a bold statement, declaring that he would never endorse a political party, even for a lucrative sum of $1 million. In an interview with Kumasi-based Nhyira FM, Kinaata expressed his concerns about the hostile political climate in Ghana, which he believes would negatively impact his reputation and career if he were to align with a political party.

While Kinaata is open to performing at political gatherings if officially invited, he drew a clear line at composing campaign songs for political parties. When asked if he would accept a $1 million proposal to endorse a party, his response was emphatic: “NO.”

Kinaata explained that his decision is rooted in the stigma that comes with artistes supporting political parties. “Ghanaians need to understand that the stage used for rallies was constructed by carpenters, electricians, and DJs who perform their duties, not because they are party members, but because they are doing their work. But when a musician decides to entertain his fans, they start stigmatizing us,” he said.

The musician hopes that if the stigma surrounding artistes and political parties subsides, they may be more encouraged to engage with political parties. “Perhaps, if the stigmatization stops, we can make songs for political parties. But for now, political tensions are high, so it’s better to stay neutral. God should select a winner, and after the elections, we will all come together to support the person,” Kinaata added.
