A fire broke out at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery’s effluent treatment plant (ETP) on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, but was swiftly contained, according to Anthony Chiejina, spokesperson for Dangote Industries Limited.
The ETP, a wastewater treatment method designed to purify industrial wastewater for reuse and environmental safety, was the site of the minor incident. Chiejina reassured that the refinery remains operational and no injuries or harm were reported among staff on duty.
“We have swiftly contained a minor fire incident at our effluent treatment plant (ETP), today Wednesday 26th of June,” Chiejina stated. “There is no cause for alarm as the refinery is operating and there is no recorded injury or body harm to all our staff on duty.”
This incident comes just months after the refinery, which has a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day (bpd), was inaugurated by former President Muhamadu Buhari in May 2023. The refinery began producing diesel and aviation fuel on January 12.
