Thierry Henry Considered For Wales Manager Role

Story Highlights
  • Henry tipped to become the new manager of the Wales
  • FAW is looking for a replacement for Rob Page
  • The FAW is taking its time with the decision

Former Arsenal and France striker Thierry Henry is a contender to become the new manager of the Wales national team.

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) is looking for a replacement for Rob Page, who was sacked after Wales failed to qualify for Euro 2024.

Henry has experience managing Monaco and Montreal Impact, and is currently coaching France’s Under-21 team and their Olympic squad for the Paris Games.

Interestingly, he also has a connection to Wales, having obtained his coaching qualifications through the FAW.

The FAW seems open to a high-profile appointment, similar to their selection of Ryan Giggs in 2018. Henry’s legendary playing career and current media presence would make him a particularly prominent choice.

While Wales might not be able to compete financially with some other national teams, Henry’s existing media and sponsorship work could allow him to continue those endeavors alongside managing Wales. This potentially removes salary as a major obstacle in securing him for the position.

The FAW is taking its time with the decision, with no fixtures for Wales until their Nations League campaign in September.
