Journalists in the Upper East Region have been urged to take government promises seriously, as the Minister for Roads and Highways, Francis Asenso Boakye, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to completing the Bolgatanga-Bawku-Pulmakom road project.

The Minister’s assurance comes after construction works on the 117.94-kilometer road project came to a standstill in February 2023, when the Brazilian contractor, Queiroz Galvao, abandoned the site.

During an inspection tour of road infrastructure in the region, Mr. Boakye emphasized that the road project is a top priority for the Akufo-Addo government, and its completion is crucial for the development of the Upper East Region.

The Minister explained that the project is divided into two phases, with phase one substantially completed, and phase two ongoing, which includes the construction of three critical bridges along the corridor and the dualization of 1.4 kilometers through the main towns of Bolgatanga. Mr. Boakye expressed confidence that the Bolga-Bawku-Pulmakom road and the Chuchuliga-Sandema-Fumbisi road will be completed soon, ensuring improved road infrastructure for the region.

The Minister’s assurance is a welcome relief to residents and commuters who have been struggling with the deplorable road conditions, which have affected economic activities and social lives. The Bolgatanga-Bawku-Pulmakom road project, which began in 2016, has faced numerous challenges, including funding issues and contractor difficulties, leading to the current standstill.

Despite these challenges, the government has reaffirmed its commitment to completing the project, which is expected to boost economic growth, improve road safety, and enhance the region’s connectivity. The Minister’s visit to the region was aimed at assessing the progress of road projects and engaging with stakeholders to address the challenges facing the sector.

By reaffirming the government’s commitment to completing the Bolga-Bawku-Pulmakom road project, the Minister has given hope to the people of the Upper East Region, who eagerly await the completion of this critical infrastructure project.
