The Ghana Education Service (GES) has received a petition to investigate the physical assault and suspension of Abraham Sambou, a third-year student at Labone Senior High School. The petition, filed by Mrs. Raissa Ebu, alleges that the House Master, Mr. Eric Agyemang, slapped Abraham on June 18.

The incident reportedly occurred after the school prefect, Blessing Nyamekye, falsely accused Abraham of using a mobile phone and refusing to surrender it. Abraham was subsequently prevented from attending classes and was kept in the senior house master’s office without food or water until his family arrived to meet with the school’s management.

Despite denying the allegations, Abraham was indefinitely expelled from the boarding house, forcing him to commute daily from Kasoa to Labone. The family is concerned about the mistreatment of Abraham and the conduct of the school authorities, particularly Mr. Agyemang, who admitted to slapping the student.

The headmistress, Mrs. Rejoice Acorlor, allegedly supported Mr. Agyemang’s actions and boasted that she would have acted more severely. The family is seeking a fair hearing for Abraham, who has been experiencing physical and psychological trauma since the incident.

Abraham’s mother expressed concern about the school’s governance and the quality of education, given the headmistress’s stance. The petition urges the GES to investigate the matter and ensure that Abraham is allowed to continue his studies without undue physical and psychological trauma.

The family is seeking justice and a safe learning environment for Abraham and all students at Labone Senior High School. The GES is expected to investigate the matter and take appropriate action to address the concerns raised by the family.
