Dr. Prince Hamid Armah, Deputy Minister of Works and Housing, has highlighted the crucial role of technological advancements in climate change adaptation and resilience. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Volta Flood and Drought Management (VFDM) Project, Dr. Armah emphasized the importance of early warning systems in minimizing the impacts of climate-related challenges.

“Early Warning Systems for flood and drought prediction play a pivotal role in climate resilience and adaptation strategies,” Dr. Armah stated. “These systems provide timely, accurate, and reliable information, transforming uncertainty into actionable intelligence.”

The government has demonstrated its commitment to reinforcing early warning systems, Dr. Armah noted, citing support for the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) and the enactment of the Ghana Hydrological Authority Act, 2022. The government has also procured equipment and vehicles to enhance GMet’s operations.

Dr. Armah urged continued collaboration to enhance global resilience, emphasizing that early warning systems are lifelines for communities facing climate change challenges. The VFDM project, a five-year initiative that ended in 2024, developed systems to reduce vulnerabilities and increase community resilience in the Volta Basin riparian countries.
