A formal complaint has been lodged with the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Education by the family of Abraham Sambou, a final-year student at Labone Senior High School (SHS), alleging mistreatment and assault by the senior housemaster, Eric Agyemang, popularly known as ‘Power’.

According to the petition, Mr. Agyemang slapped Abraham on June 18, 2024, following accusations by the school prefect, Blessing Elisha Nyamekye, that Abraham refused to surrender a mobile phone he was caught with. Despite denying the allegations, Abraham was barred from attending classes, detained in Mr. Agyemang’s office without food or water, and eventually indefinitely deboardinized without due process.

The family expressed deep concern about the mistreatment of their ward, stating, “Master Sambou, a vulnerable final-year student, needs all the psychological help he can get as the WASSCE approaches.” The petition also revealed that Abraham has been experiencing severe headaches and pain in his left ear and left eye, and has sought treatment at the Amanfro Polyclinic.

The family is urging the GES and Education Ministry to investigate the incident and take appropriate action.
