The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has announced the operationalization of the new Terminal building at Prempeh I International Airport, Kumasi, effective Monday, July 1, 2024. To ensure a seamless transition, GACL will conduct subsystem simulations and integrated simulations of all processes and systems from June 25 to June 30, 2024.
The objective is to ensure that all systems, equipment, and staff are fully prepared to operate efficiently and effectively. The simulations will also help manage risks associated with the transfer of operations from the old terminal to the new Terminal building.
As part of the operationalization process, three live flights will be operated from the new terminal building from June 28 to June 30, 2024. Africa World Airlines and Passion Air have been advised to inform passengers scheduled to travel on these dates to be aware of this arrangement.
The new Terminal building has a capacity to handle 800,000 passengers per annum and process 200 passengers per hour. It features two passenger boarding bridges, a Presidential lounge, and three other lounges.
The terminal also has four boarding gates, four self-service check-in kiosks, nine check-in desks, and sixteen immigration booths.
Additionally, there are airline and staff offices, a large commercial retail area, currency declaration office, Forex Bureau, visa-on-arrival facility, automated car park, multipurpose faith room, dedicated area for unaccompanied minors, modern baggage handling systems, and a medical facility.
