A 17-year-old suspected robber, Joel Nyarko, was severely beaten and had his right ear chopped off by an angry mob at Domeabra in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

The incident occurred after Joel and his accomplices attempted to rob a vehicle, but were thwarted by residents who apprehended Joel and subjected him to a brutal beating. The timely intervention of the Police saved Joel from being lynched.

According to eyewitness Charles Ayitey, one of the residents cut off Joel’s ear to serve as a deterrent to others. “One of the residents cut off his ear to serve as a warning to others,” Ayitey told Adom News.

Joel, who sustained various degrees of injuries, was conveyed to the hospital for treatment by Police officers from Amanfrom District Police Command. A preliminary Police investigation has established that Joel is a Sakawa boy who resides at Dwenwoho but often visits his uncle in Kasoa.

In a contradictory statement, Joel told the Police that he was rather robbed by unknown people when he was being attacked, claiming that his iPhone, dollar and cedi currencies, and other accessories were stolen.

“The suspect told the Police that he was rather robbed by unknown people when he was being attacked,” a Police source said. “He claims his iPhone, dollar and cedi currencies, and other accessories have been stolen.”
