Richard Jakpa, the third accused in the ambulance trial, informed an Accra High Court that he had approached the Attorney-General privately before his lawyers filed a submission of no case.
Jakpa asserted his innocence, stating that he sought the Attorney-General’s assistance in securing his acquittal.
During cross-examination by DPP Yvonne Attakorah Obuobisa, Jakpa recounted how he contacted the Attorney-General to express gratitude for aiding his bail.
Jakpa claimed that both he and the first accused, Ato Forson, were innocent, and that Dr. Sylvester Anemana was the only one with a case to answer.
He added that the Attorney-General had assured him Forson was the primary target but that he would be acquitted at the submission of no case stage.
Additionally, Jakpa implicated former Finance Minister Seth Terkper and Sherry Ayittey in the trial’s complications.
He mentioned a 2017 incident on Joy FM where he accused Terkper of sabotaging the ambulance project, leading to a heated exchange with Forson.
Jakpa told the court that he requested to be made a prosecution witness to expose Terkper and Ayittey on July 17, 2022.
