Story Highlights
  • Ghana Refugee Board has successfully relocated over 100 refugees
  • The demolition forced residents to quickly gather their belongings
  • Efforts are underway to assist the repatriation of the remaining Liberian refugees

The Executive Secretary of the Ghana Refugee Board, Tetteh Paddie, has announced the successful relocation of over 100 refugees after the demolition of Buduburam.

The demolition displaced many residents, prompting a swift collection of their belongings. Mr. Paddie stated in an interview that the relocated individuals have been moved to various refugee camps across the country.

He clarified that most of the remaining individuals are former refugees who chose to stay in Ghana and are now considered Liberian nationals, no longer under the care of the Ghana Refugee Board.

“Most of the Liberians at Buduburam are not refugees. The few who are still under our care have been relocated to a refugee camp in the Western Region, numbering about 150,” he explained.

Mr. Paddie also mentioned ongoing efforts to repatriate the remaining Liberian refugees.

“The first batch of Liberians has already left. The Liberian government will continue with the repatriation of those who wish to return voluntarily. While I can’t provide a specific date, we will coordinate with the Liberian government for the next movement,” he added.
