A three-year solar training program, jointly organized by the Ghana Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Service and the UWZ Partner Africa Project, has commenced at the Accra Technical Training Centre. The initiative aims to promote employment and enhance working conditions in Ghana’s electrical sector, with a focus on solar PV.
According to Richmond Agyemang Junior, Acting Head of Corporate Affairs at Ghana TVET Service, the program will help address the country’s electricity challenges and create job opportunities for youth. “Solar energy is green, and this initiative will help save many homes in Ghana from the national grid, making it easy to gradually become electrical-free,” he said.
International Project Manager for the UWZ Partner Africa Project, Carola Schmidt, emphasized the importance of growing solar power in Ghana, citing the country’s high potential for solar energy. The program will provide training for artisans, electricians, and students, with the goal of extending the initiative to more schools in Ghana.
The Accra Technical Training Centre’s Head of the Electrical Department and students expressed gratitude for the opportunity, which has sparked increased interest in solar PV training among students. The program will next be held at the Ada Technical Institute and Prefos Electrical Training Centre in Kumasi.
