Ebenezer Oklitey Teye Larbi, the Member of Parliament for Lower Manya Krobo, has voiced his concerns over what he perceives as a lack of dedication among members of the Majority Caucus in Parliament to parliamentary proceedings.
According to Larbi, a significant number of Majority Caucus members have shifted their focus away from legislative business to engage in campaign activities supporting Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate.
Addressing Parliament on Wednesday, June 19, Larbi criticized the absenteeism of Majority members, describing it as demoralizing for the Minority Caucus.
He emphasized that this behavior undermines the seriousness of parliamentary work and suggested that if the government has no legislative agenda, Parliament should adjourn indefinitely so that all members can actively participate in the election campaign.
“It’s detrimental to our reputation. It’s as though we’re not taking our responsibilities seriously here. If the government doesn’t have any business for us, then we should adjourn indefinitely so we can also go out and campaign,” Larbi remarked during his parliamentary address.
He further noted, “We also want to support our presidential candidate. It’s a fact that many of our colleagues are preoccupied with following the vice president’s campaign trail, which explains their absence. If it’s all about campaigning, then let’s adjourn indefinitely so we can all participate, because their lack of commitment to parliamentary business is evident.”
