Lille midfielder Nabil Bentaleb has been hospitalized in France after suffering an undisclosed illness.
The 29-year-old Algerian international joined Lille last year after a stint with Angers.
“Lille OSC are closely supporting Nabil Bentaleb during this difficult time and wish him a speedy recovery,” the club said in a statement.
Bentaleb began his professional career at Tottenham Hotspur in 2013, making 46 appearances in the Premier League. He has also played for Schalke and Newcastle United on loan.
Bentaleb’s former club, Tottenham, sent their well wishes on social media: “We’re sending you all our love and best wishes, Nabil. Everyone at the club is with you.”
With 52 caps and five goals for Algeria, Bentaleb is a vital player for his national team. The Algerian Football Federation also expressed their support for Bentaleb’s recovery.
