The Zoomlion Foundation has launched a major initiative to equip schoolchildren, teachers, and parents in Accra with the skills to handle emergencies and navigate roads safely.
Targeting 10,000 beneficiaries in the Adentan Municipality, the program collaborates with various organizations:
- Medical Experts: Korle Bu Teaching Hospital provides medical professionals to lead training sessions.
- Emergency Services: The National Ambulance Service trains participants on emergency communication and showcases their ambulance services.
- Road Safety Professionals: Road Safety Management Services Limited (RSML) educates attendees on road safety regulations, particularly important due to a recently constructed road near participating schools.
- Ghanaian Authorities: The Ghana Police Service and Ghana Education Service support the program.
First Training a Success:
Over 3,000 people participated in the first training held on June 14th, 2024, at Nii Sowa Din Memorial Cluster of Schools. Attendees included:
- Students from all five schools in the cluster
- Teachers
- Parents
- Community representatives (city guards, environmental officers, clinic staff, PTA leaders, drivers, clergy, and vendors)
Key Learnings:
- Emergency Response: Participants learned critical skills like CPR, first aid, and handling situations like convulsions and burns.
- Communication: Training covered the importance of timely and effective communication during emergencies, including using the National Ambulance Service short code 193.
- Road Safety: Emphasis was placed on educating children about road regulations, especially relevant given the new dual carriageway near the schools.
Looking Ahead:
The Zoomlion Foundation plans to expand the program to reach all schools in Nmai Dzorn. They are also working with local authorities to implement additional measures to reduce speeding near schools.
