The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Nartey George, has called on Petro-Canada to set up a manufacturing plant in Ghana, citing the country’s potential as a launchpad into the African market.
Speaking at the opening of the second terminal of Dutylex and Petro-Canada at Tema Community 25, Sam George emphasized the benefits of manufacturing over importing. “Importing is one thing, manufacturing is another. We have the raw materials here, and I would be interested to see how well we can turn Ghana, specifically Ningo-Prampram, into a manufacturing hub, considering the long-term impact,” he said.
The partnership between Dutylex Oil and Petro-Canada has been fruitful, serving clients in various industries, including energy, mines, food, and beverages. According to Matt Joyce, Vice President of Lubricants and Specialties at Petro-Canada, Dutylex has been instrumental in getting products to consumers, leveraging Peter Quarm’s experience in the oil and gas industry.
Sam Acquaye, Senior Sales Manager of Petro-Canada for UK, West, South, and Central Africa, expressed enthusiasm about the growing partnership, highlighting the importance of education and making the right choices when it comes to lubricants.
While establishing a plant in Ghana depends on demand, Peter Quarm, CEO of Dutylex Oil, emphasized the company’s commitment to local content and long-term goals, including blending in-country and employing local expertise.
The partnership aims to supply West, Central, and East Africa with Petro-Canada’s lubricants, with Dutylex Oil set to represent Petro-Canada throughout Africa. Ebenezer Laryea Jnr., Chief Operating Officer and National Sales Manager for Dutylex, highlighted the impact on companies’ bottom lines, urging others to join the journey despite market dynamics in Africa.
The new terminal at Community 25, Tema, built to hold over a million liters, follows the establishment of another terminal at Tarkwa to serve the mines. Stakeholders, including chambers, clients in mines and energy, traditional authorities, and others, attended the event to show their support.
