Kylian Mbappe’s participation in France’s upcoming match against the Netherlands at Euro 2024 is uncertain due to a broken nose sustained in their opening win over Austria. The 25-year-old striker was substituted after his face collided with opponent Kevin Danso’s shoulder during an aerial challenge on Monday.
Mbappe was taken to a hospital in Dusseldorf, where the break was confirmed, before returning to the French national team’s camp. The French Football Federation (FFF) announced that a further update on Mbappe’s condition will be provided on Wednesday.
Fortunately, Mbappe does not require surgery for the injury, and a protective mask will be created for him to wear. France’s coach, Didier Deschamps, expressed concern over Mbappe’s well-being in a post-match press conference, stating that he was “not doing well”.
Mbappe played a crucial role in France’s winning goal against Austria, providing the cross that was headed into the net by defender Max Wober. Despite his impressive record of 47 goals in 80 appearances for France, Mbappe has yet to score a goal at a European Championship.
Mbappe’s future with Real Madrid has been confirmed, as he will join the club after the tournament, following the expiration of his Paris St-Germain contract. The uncertainty surrounding Mbappe’s availability for the Netherlands match has sparked concern among French fans, who rely heavily on their talismanic captain’s skills on the field.
