Dr. Prah George Kwame, the Medical Director of Winneba Trauma and Specialist Hospital, has issued a detailed report addressing the recent controversy surrounding the discharge of a patient in Gomoa Ojobi.
The incident involved a patient who had been involved in a hit-and-run accident and subsequently treated at the hospital.
According to Dr. George Kwame’s report, the patient, initially unidentified, was brought to the hospital by the National Ambulance Service following the accident on May 29.
The hospital provided comprehensive care, including medical treatment and accommodation, as the patient had no immediate family to cover expenses.
“After thorough medical examinations and treatment for leg fractures, the patient was discharged on June 3, 2024, upon full recovery,” stated Dr. George Kwame, highlighting that the discharge was based on the patient’s improved health status and her expressed desire to return to Gomoa Ojobi.
The Medical Director clarified that before her departure, arrangements were made in consultation with social welfare officers to transport the patient safely back to her community of origin. “Our hospital ambulance, accompanied by social welfare personnel, ensured the patient’s safe return, with appropriate communication made to local authorities in Gomoa Ojobi,” he added.
Dr. George Kwame emphasized the hospital’s commitment to compassionate patient care and refuted any allegations of negligence or misconduct.
He affirmed that such cases are not uncommon for their facility, which routinely provides support to patients in need, ensuring their safe return home after treatment.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Health Service has initiated an investigation into the incident, appointing a committee to ascertain the facts and ensure accountability in line with established protocols.
