The Interior Ministry has issued a stern warning to private security organizations to stop using unauthorized uniforms, failure to which will lead to arrests and legal consequences. In a statement released on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, the Ministry emphasized the need for compliance with regulations governing private security organizations in Ghana.
The Ministry’s warning comes after two individuals were arrested on Friday, June 14, 2024, for violating regulations by wearing unprescribed uniforms similar to military uniforms. The arrests were made by the Ghana Police Service as part of the Ministry’s efforts to regulate the industry and ensure safety and security for all citizens.
The Police Service (Private Security Organisations) Regulations, 1992 (LI.1571) and the Police Service Organisations (Amendment) Regulations, 1994 (L.I.1579) outline the regulations governing private security organizations in Ghana.
The Ministry acknowledged the crucial role private security organizations play in complementing Ghana’s security services but expressed its commitment to upholding safety and security regulations. The Ministry will not compromise on regulations designed to ensure the safety and security of all Ghanaians and will continue to create a safe and secure environment for all citizens.
