A 16-year-old girl named Rebecca Nyomi has been taken into police custody in Mankessim’s New Nkusukum suburb after allegedly setting fire to her boyfriend’s room following a breakup.
The incident unfolded after a confrontation at the boyfriend’s workplace.
Reports state that Nyomi visited Samuel Agbobli at his cornmeal shop to request money, but he informed her that their relationship was over, accusing her of being unfaithful.
Despite Nyomi’s pleas for reconciliation, Agbobli reportedly forcibly removed her from the shop.
Distraught over the breakup, Nyomi used a spare key to enter Agbobli’s room and set it on fire before locking the doors and windows.
She then returned to her own workplace. Agbobli was alerted to the fire by phone and arrived to find his belongings destroyed.
Witnesses revealed that Nyomi had confided in them about the breakup and her boyfriend’s treatment before the fire. Despite admitting to starting the blaze and contributing to the purchase of items in the room, Nyomi’s extreme reaction shocked Agbobli, who confirmed the breakup.
The Assembly Member for New Nkusukum, Hon. Alhaji Alli Amoah Abubakuri, condemned the incident and urged teenagers to avoid such destructive behaviors in relationships.
Nyomi is currently cooperating with police at the Mankessim Police Station following her apprehension by community members.
