Medical Laboratory Professionals Walk Out in Nationwide Strike
- Medical laboratory professionals are on a nationwide strike
- The strike is due to slow progress in negotiations with the government
- Medical services in labs and blood banks will be affected by the strike
Medical laboratory professionals across the nation have initiated a strike today, June 17, 2024, in accordance with Section 159 of the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651).
The Medical Laboratory Professionals Workers Union issued a statement citing the government’s prolonged delay in negotiations as the primary cause for the strike.
They also expressed frustration over the lack of financial clearance for non-mechanized members within their ranks.
The union emphasized its resolve to withstand any attempts at coercion during the strike.
The walkout is expected to disrupt medical laboratory services in blood banks, pathology laboratories, and certain mortuary facilities.
