Germany midfielder Toni Kroos has expressed concerns about the challenge Scotland could present when the two teams meet in the opening game of the 2024 European Championship. Germany, playing on home soil and aiming for their fourth European trophy, are clear favourites to win on Friday evening against the Tartan Army.
However, Kroos, who will be participating in his final tournament before retiring from football, believes Scotland poses a significant threat that could trouble the four-time World Cup champions. Kroos warned that Scotland is a difficult team to play against, citing their physical strength, compactness, and defensive prowess, as well as their quick counter-attacks.
He revealed that he had spoken to a teammate at Real Madrid who had faced Scotland in the qualifying round and was told that they were a tough team to play against. Kroos believes that Scotland is the kind of opponent that the Germany national team has always had difficulty playing against.
Despite the daunting task ahead, Scotland midfielder Billy Gilmour is delighted to face Toni Kroos, whom he describes as “unbelievable” and a player he has always admired. Gilmour is looking forward to the opportunity to face Kroos, saying it will be a thrilling experience.
Kroos, the former Real Madrid midfielder, will be participating for the national team for the last time, marking the end of a remarkable career that saw him win numerous titles, including the 2014 World Cup. Germany will also face Hungary and Switzerland in Group A, making for a challenging start to their European Championship campaign.
