Edin Terzic Has Stepped Down As Borussia Dortmund Manager.

Story Highlights
  • Terzic requested that his contract be terminated
  • He began his coaching career at Dortmund's academy
  • He took over as interim manager in 2020

Terzic, 41, requested that his contract be terminated after leading Dortmund to the Champions League final last season, which they lost to Real Madrid.

“After the game at Wembley, I asked for a meeting… because after nine years at BVB… I feel that the club’s new era should begin with a new man on the touchline,” Terzic said in a statement.

The club said they agreed to Terzic’s request and praised his contributions to Dortmund.

Terzic began his coaching career at Dortmund’s academy and later became assistant manager under both Slaven Bilic and Lucien Favre. He took over as interim manager in 2020 and led the club to German Cup victory. After a stint as technical director, he was appointed manager in 2022.

Dortmund finished second in the Bundesliga in the 2022-23 season and fifth in the 2023-24 season, qualifying for next year’s Champions League.

“Edin Terzic has done an outstanding job in his time at BVB, and we all owe him a huge debt of gratitude,” said Dortmund chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke. “Edin and I will always remain friends.”
