A devastating accident occurred on Monday near Suhum Star Oil on the Accra-Kumasi Highway, resulting in the death of an okada rider and injuries to three others. The tragic incident has raised concerns about road safety and the need for vigilance on major highways.
According to Accra-based Starr FM, a truck traveling from Accra to Kumasi with registration number GT 6359-24 was involved in the accident. The driver lost control after a tyre burst, leading to a fatal collision. The truck ran over the okada rider, killing him instantly, and also collided with a sprinter bus with registration number GC 7652-20, injuring three occupants.
Eyewitnesses described the scene as gruesome, with debris scattered all over the road. The okada rider was pronounced dead at the scene, while the three injured occupants of the sprinter bus were rushed to the Suhum Government Hospital for treatment.
The body of the deceased has been taken to the same hospital’s mortuary, where the injured are receiving treatment. Police have commenced investigation into the incident, with the driver of the truck currently in custody.
