Accra Hosts Inaugural Cancer Survivors Walk

Hundreds of cancer survivors, NGOs, medical practitioners, and members of the public united in Accra last Saturday for the city’s first-ever Cancer Survivors Walk. The event aimed to raise awareness about cancer survivorship in Ghana.

The walk began at Accra Girls Senior High School and proceeded through several major streets, culminating at the Elwak Sports Stadium. Participants held placards with powerful messages about cancer and marched in solidarity, distributing informative flyers to the public. The flyers emphasized the importance of early detection, treatment options, and support for survivors.

Akwasi Osei, President of the Cancer Support Network Foundation (CSNF), led the walk and expressed gratitude to participants for their role in making the event a success. “Today marks a significant milestone in our fight against cancer. Your presence here is a testament to our collective resolve to support and uplift cancer survivors,” he said.

Osei commended CSNF founder Juliet Appiah Quansah for her dedication to the organization’s philanthropic objectives. Secretary Blaise Ackom urged the public to dispel common misconceptions about cancer, stressing the need for accurate information and community support to combat stigma. Organizer Mrs. Ramatu Sumani emphasized the importance of survivors sharing their stories, saying, “Our stories are a source of hope and inspiration for those currently battling cancer.”
