President Akufo-Addo Denies “Clearing Agent” Label, Reaffirms Commitment To Due Process
- Nana Addo rejectes allegations of being a "clearing agent"
- Mahama has repeatedly labeled Akufo-Addo as a "clearing agent"
- Nana Addo has reaffirmed to uphold legal norms
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has strongly rejected allegations that he is a “clearing agent” for exonerating individuals involved in corruption.
This response comes amid persistent accusations by former President John Mahama, who has repeatedly labeled Akufo-Addo as enabling corruption within his administration.
Speaking at the commissioning of the new Law House in Accra on Monday, June 10, President Akufo-Addo emphasized the importance of upholding due process and legal norms in combating corruption.
He addressed Mahama’s criticisms, stating, “I am aware of the former president’s statement labeling me a clearing agent, simply because he believes an allegation alone is enough to condemn an accused public official, especially one from my administration.”
The President reaffirmed his commitment to adhering to due process and natural justice, declaring, “I will not sacrifice due process and the rules of natural justice for the sake of the fight against corruption, no matter the criticism I may face.” This statement underscores his administration’s unwavering dedication to upholding the principles of justice and procedural fairness in addressing corruption.
