Kofi Okyere Darko, a renowned Ghanaian broadcaster and fashion icon, has expressed his disappointment with the red carpet fashion at the recently held Telecel Ghana Music Awards. Speaking on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, Darko criticized the outfits worn by attendees, stating, “For me, the performers on the night brought their A-game, but the red carpet sucked. It was a missed opportunity for our celebrities to showcase their fashion sense.”
Darko, founder of the Nineteen57 fashion company, emphasized the need for simplicity and accentuation, citing events in South Africa and Nigeria as examples. “Chale, don’t complicate things, especially for the brothers. Just wear a simple black suit and accentuate it with a bit of color. Since the event is red-themed, maybe add a red pocket square or socks. It’s not rocket science,” he advised.
He also assessed the emceeing, giving Chris Attoh a score of 7 out of 10. “I think we had timeless people who were not on the stage for the first time. Naa Ashorkor has done this maybe three times. Chris took a break off hosting live shows, and I was looking forward to seeing him. On a scale of 0-10, I’ll give Chris maybe like 7. They only place I didn’t seem to get was their intro. They had a bit of a shaky intro, but they picked up,” he said.
The Telecel Ghana Music Awards, held on June 1, 2024, at the Accra International Conference Center, saw Stonebwoy win Artiste of the Year, among other awards. Strongman, King Paluta, Olivetheboy, Nacee, Amerado, Kofi Kinaata, Kuami Eugene, Kofi Karikari, and Queendalyn were among the other award recipients. Charterhouse organized the event.
