Wave Africa, a youth-focused marketing and communication agency, has issued a statement clarifying the circumstances surrounding Shatta Wale’s absence from the Reunion Rave Artiste Night on Saturday, June 8, 2024.

According to the agency, they were approached two months prior by the executives of Jean Topp Nelson Yankah Hall to provide an artiste and organize the event on their behalf. After a two-month-long deliberation, a contract was signed, and Wave Africa secured a deal with Shatta Wale to perform at the event, leading to the release of his promotional poster.

However, on Friday, June 7, an online communique from the Dean of Students’ Office announced the cancellation of the event, despite assurances from the hall executives that the issues had been resolved. Wave Africa proceeded with the event plans, arranging additional security measures with law enforcement agencies to ensure a smooth event.

On Saturday, June 8, during the setup and sound check, the Legon campus security interrupted, citing an “order from above.” A delegation from Wave Africa met with the Dean of Students and was informed that the event could proceed but without Shatta Wale’s performance.

Wave Africa has apologized to the event patrons for not being able to deliver Shatta Wale’s performance as promised and has referred the matter to their legal team.

The agency is making efforts to reach out to all stakeholders involved in the matter. The event, organized in collaboration with TF Hostels, generated significant conversations on social media after news broke that Shatta Wale was prevented from performing despite being billed for the show.
