Ghana’s Gold Output Reaches Record High Of Four Million Ounces In 2023

Ghana’s gold production has risen from 3.7 million ounces in 2022 to 4 million ounces in 2023, marking an 8.3% increase, according to the Ghana Chamber of Mines.

This growth is attributed to the expansion of small-scale mining, despite a decline in large-scale gold production.

The country also saw significant increases in bauxite and diamond revenues, while manganese export proceeds decreased slightly.

Gold production increased by 8.3% to 4 million ounces in 2023, driven by small-scale mining expansion.

Large-scale gold production declined from 3.1 million ounces to 2.9 million ounces in 2023.

Small-scale production surged by 70.6% from 0.66 million ounces to 1.1 million ounces.

Bauxite and diamond revenues saw significant increases, while manganese export proceeds decreased slightly.

Manganese production is expected to reach 5 million tonnes, bauxite between 1.2 million and 1.5 million tonnes, and diamond exports between 220,000 to 250,000 carats.

Gold production for 2024 is projected to hit between 4.3 million and 4.5 million ounces.

The Ghana Chamber of Mines realized US$5.9 billion in mineral revenue in 2023, repatriating US$4.2 billion.
