The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is in mourning following the passing of its Upper West Regional Chairman, Dr. Saanbaye Basilide Kangbere. Dr. Kangbere died on June 7, 2024, at his residence in Adjringano, Accra, at the age of 76.
Tanko Dauda Daniel, the Upper West Regional Secretary of the NPP, confirmed the sad news to ChannelOne News. While the party has been informed, they are still awaiting official notification from the family.
Dr. Kangbere had been battling renal health issues for some time before his passing. Despite his health challenges, he remained a dedicated servant of the party and played a key role in the NPP’s regional politics.
In 2022, Dr. Kangbere secured reelection as the Upper West Regional Chairman, defeating his main contender, Alhaji Mahama Toyina, by a slim margin. He polled 130 votes out of a total of 242 valid votes cast, while Alhaji Toyina received 112 valid votes.
Dr. Kangbere’s leadership and dedication to the party were evident in his reelection victory, despite earlier concerns about his health. His passing has left a void in the party’s regional leadership, and he will be deeply missed by his colleagues and supporters.
Following Dr. Kangbere’s demise, Mr. Adul-Rahman Aziz, the first Vice Chairman of the NPP in the Upper West Region, is expected to assume the role of Regional Chairman. The party is expected to make an official announcement soon.
The NPP has lost a dedicated and hardworking leader in Dr. Kangbere. His contributions to the party’s growth and success in the Upper West Region will always be remembered and cherished.
