ITA Airways has successfully launched commercial flight operations to Kotoka International Airport (KIA), marking a significant milestone in Ghana’s aviation industry. The inaugural flight touched down at approximately 1939 hours and was greeted with a water cannon salute by the Rescue and Fire Fighting team of Ghana Airports Company Limited.
In her welcome address, Mrs Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, Managing Director of Ghana Airports Company Limited, congratulated the ITA team on the launch and expressed her appreciation for their confidence in Ghana’s aviation industry.
Mrs Opare noted that the commencement of flight operations on the Rome/Accra/Rome route signified a new era of convenience and efficiency for travelers, offering passengers more options and seamless connectivity between the two cities.
She also highlighted the recent commissioning of Tamale International Airport and Prempeh I International Airport in Kumasi, encouraging interested airlines to explore the opportunities in those markets.
Ghana Airports Company Limited is committed to providing unwavering support to ensure ITA Airways consistently achieves high on-time departure and arrival performance, Mrs Opare assured. The Managing Director urged stakeholders to continue supporting Ghana Airports Company Limited as it works towards achieving its vision, which aligns with the broader government vision for the aviation industry.
Other speakers at the event included Pierfrancesco Carino, Vice President Sales of ITA Airways, Ghana’s Ambassador to Italy, H.E. Merena Botsio Benyah, and Ambassador of Italy to Ghana and Togo, H.E. Daniela d’Orlandi.
ITA Airways’ arrival in Ghana makes it the 24th International Airline to operate to Kotoka International Airport, with four weekly flights scheduled on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from Italy to Accra. The successful launch of ITA Airways’ operations in Ghana is expected to further enhance the country’s position as a preferred aviation hub and leader in airport business in West Africa.
