The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) has provided shelter for individuals affected by flooding along the Accra-Winneba Highway.
Over 150 homes in Gomoa Mampong were inundated after portions of the highway caved in due to the diversion of the Ayensu River by a contractor working on the Kasoa-Cape Coast Highway.
Robert Hackman, Gomoa East NADMO Coordinator, told the media that his team is working with relevant bodies to mitigate further issues. “We evacuated people from their homes and sheltered them at the nearest Pentecost Church. Relief items are on the way, courtesy of our director general and regional minister.”
Hackman acknowledged the contractor’s pre-work consultation but emphasized the need for collaboration to prevent future incidents. “I don’t want to blame him entirely; it’s a natural occurrence. Going forward, we’ll work together to ensure a smoother process.”
The flood victims are currently sheltered at the Pentecost Church, awaiting relief items and further support from NADMO and other stakeholders.
