Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame has affirmed his commitment to prosecuting the ambulance case, despite being advised by the presiding judge to step back.
The High Court overseeing the trial, which involves Minority Leader Cassiel Ato Forson and Richard Jakpa, had recommended that the AG distance himself from the proceedings.
This suggestion arose following concerns raised by the judge regarding the AG’s interaction with the third accused, Richard Jakpa, outside the courtroom.
The AG had conversed with Jakpa about the case and encouraged him to present a medical excuse for an adjournment. However, the judge deemed this interaction insufficient grounds to halt the prosecution.
Justice Afia Serwah Asare-Botwe advised the AG to recuse himself from directly handling the case, citing it as beneficial to judicial integrity.
Despite this counsel, Dame, speaking at a press briefing following the hearing, clarified that the judge’s remark was merely advisory.
He has chosen to press forward with the case, undeterred by the judge’s cautionary words.
