President Akufo-Addo has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting Ghana’s environment by reducing carbon emissions by 64 million tonnes.
Speaking at the Green Ghana event on June 7, 2024, the President emphasized the importance of preserving the country’s forest reserves.
He called on all agencies to support the initiative, which aims to promote sustainable forest management and reduce the rate of deforestation. The Green Ghana Day initiative was launched to encourage the planting of trees and promote environmental conservation.
Since its launch, a total of 43 million trees have been planted across the country. According to the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, more than 60% of the trees planted so far have survived.
