The second edition of the Africa Cinema Summit was launched on Thursday at the Accra Tourist Information Centre, setting the stage for a gathering of stakeholders from across the continent and beyond.
Under the patronage of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, the National Film Authority of Ghana, and Silverbird Cinemas, the summit aims to explore challenges and opportunities in the African cinema space.
This year’s theme, “The Relevance of Cinema in African Communities,” will be discussed from October 7-10 at the Movenpick Ambassadore Hotel in Accra. The inaugural summit last year brought together representatives from 20 African countries, facilitating crucial discussions on the cinema landscape and opportunities tailored to each region.
The 2023 edition achieved significant milestones, as noted by President Akufo-Addo, and this year’s summit aims to build on that progress, promoting collaboration, innovation, and sustainable growth in the industry.
The National Film Authority announced the executive steering committee, comprising Moses Babatope, Rob Arthur, Tim Yaw Strutters, Ojoma Ochai, and Funmi Onuma, who will lead the summit alongside CEO Juliet Yaa Asantewaa Asante and her team.
The launch event was attended by notable figures, including Deputy Minister Mark Okraku-Mantey, David Dontoh, Adjetey Annan, Bill Asamoah, and Kafui Dey.
