Majority Accuses Minority of Economic Sabotage Through Misinformation

The Majority in Parliament has accused the minority caucus of undermining the economy by spreading misinformation, which they argue drives away potential investors.

They claim that continuous false narratives to the public are detrimental to economic growth.

The Minority in Parliament, however, has raised concerns about the government’s alleged breaches of the Public Financial Management Act.

They specifically point to the lack of parliamentary approval for the contract to dualize the Kasoa-Winneba section of the Accra-Cape Coast highway.

In response, the Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, emphasized that not all contracts with multi-year values require parliamentary approval, especially if they involve international transactions.

He urged the minority to focus on factual arguments rather than misleading accusations.

Afenyo-Markin cautioned against spreading falsehoods that could scare off potential investors, noting that such actions amount to sabotaging the economy. He encouraged constructive dialogue based on facts, particularly in an election year.

Additionally, he called on the business community to refrain from hoarding dollars, assuring them of the government’s efforts to maintain the stability of the cedi.
