GMET Warns of Imminent Heavy Rainfall and Strong Winds in Coming Weeks

The Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMET) has issued a high alert warning of impending heavy rainfall and strong winds in the coming weeks, particularly in the northern zone. This warning was announced during the National Workshop on Floods and Drought Early Warning in Accra, organized by the Water Resources Commission.
According to Joshua Asamoah, a senior meteorologist at the Public Weather Office, the rainy season will be characterized by strong winds accompanying rainfall, which may lead to fallen trees and havoc. However, he noted that the strong winds will also reduce the likelihood of flooding in many areas.
Asamoah advised the public to seek shelter immediately when signs of rainfall appear, emphasizing that attempting to rush home during heavy winds and rainfall is dangerous. Instead, individuals should remain in safe locations until the storm passes.
George Ayisi, Public Relations Officer of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), assured that measures are being taken to mitigate the expected effects, including training for quick response and search and rescue operations. NADMO has cautioned the public to avoid areas with many trees during heavy winds and rainfall and to heed weather forecasts and warnings from GMET.
The agency has also advised the public to stay away from flooded areas and to follow safety guidelines to minimize the impact of the impending heavy rainfall and strong winds.
