Ghana has received a significant boost for its development goals with a new $2 billion framework agreement signed with South Korea’s Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF).
This agreement, finalized during the 2024 Korea-Africa Summit, will support key Ghanaian programs in infrastructure, agriculture, healthcare, education, energy, transportation, and information technology over the next five years.
The signing ceremony marks a major milestone in the long-standing economic partnership between the two countries. Ghana’s Finance Minister, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, and South Korea’s Foreign Minister, Mr. Cho Tae-yeol, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective governments.
Boosting Development Across Sectors
This $2 billion injection is expected to significantly accelerate development projects across various sectors in Ghana. Dr. Adam highlighted the potential impact, mentioning plans for “high-speed railways, highways, and sustainable energy systems.”
The agreement will also provide support for improving healthcare facilities, disease prevention initiatives, and educational programs. Dr. Adam emphasized the importance of these areas, stating, “A healthy population is the bedrock of progress” and “Our commitment to quality education remains unwavering.”

The Ghanaian government has assured responsible management of these funds, with Dr. Adam promising “effective project management to maximize the impact of this investment.” He also pointed to Ghana’s recent economic progress, citing strong GDP growth and declining inflation.

Mr. Cho Tae-yeol, South Korea’s Foreign Minister, expressed his satisfaction with the strong ties between the two nations. He highlighted the leadership’s role in fostering this partnership and expressed optimism for further cooperation in areas like trade, climate change, and defense.

The Ghanaian delegation attending the Korea-Africa Summit was led by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. Ghana’s success in implementing its IMF-supported economic recovery program is also contributing to its positive economic outlook.
