Concerned Students of UDS Demand Certificates and Call for Removal of UDS Officials

A group of students from the University for Development Studies (UDS) sandwich programmes in five Colleges of Education have expressed their frustration and disappointment over the delay in receiving their graduation certificates. The students, who completed their programmes between 2021 and 2022, are yet to receive their certificates from UDS.
Speaking at a press conference in Walewale, the group’s spokesperson, Christy Avuyem, stated that the delay has caused significant distress and hardship for the students and their families. “Our parents and guardians feel scammed, and our husbands feel we have failed or wasted their money,” she said.
The students questioned why UDS, which prides itself as the “pride of the north,” is taking over two years to issue certificates when other universities typically hold graduation ceremonies and issue certificates within four months of completion.
The group has issued a one-week ultimatum to the university authorities to release their certificates, threatening radical action if their demand is not met. They also called for the removal of the University’s Director of Information Communication Technology, Abdul Wahid Mohammed, and other officials for their perceived anti-student behavior and unprofessional conduct.
The students appealed to the National Accreditation Board and the Ministry of Education to intervene in the matter for an amicable settlement.
