As Ghana gears up for its imminent elections, recent survey results illuminate a dynamic political landscape where the National Democratic Congress (NDC) emerges as the frontrunner in voter popularity.

The findings, curated by political analyst Professor Smart Sarpong, unveil a tight race with the NDC securing 38.8% of the votes, closely trailed by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at 34.5%.

Conducted in April 2024 across all 16 regions, the survey, based on 275 constituencies, engaged a substantial sample size of 59,547, meticulously selected to mirror the demographic diversity of the electorate as per the 2020 voter register.

Significantly, a notable 23.1% of voters remain undecided, signaling a pivotal segment that could sway the final outcome. Smaller parties collectively command a modest 3.6% of voter allegiance.

However, the narrative shifts when it comes to preferred presidential candidates. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the NPP leads the fray with 38.9% support, narrowly edging out the NDC’s John Dramani Mahama, who garners 36.1%. Undecided voters constitute 21.4%, while other candidates collectively amass 3.6% of support.

Delving deeper, the survey probes into the driving forces behind voter decisions. Competence reigns supreme, resonating with 50.3% of respondents as their foremost consideration. Presidential track records hold sway for 22.5% of voters, while party allegiance remains pivotal for 19.1%. Intriguingly, 3.7% acknowledge the potential influence of financial incentives on their voting choice.

Moreover, the report underscores critical issues flagged by voters, with unemployment emerging as the paramount concern for 21.1% of respondents. Economic revitalization commands attention, with 33.7% collectively highlighting various economic challenges.

The infrastructural deficit, encompassing roads, water, and power, looms large on the national agenda, alongside pressing issues such as illegal mining, LGBTQ rights, corruption, and sanitation.
